BDU (Brass Down Under) was formed in 2004. Its principle aim was to encourage and foster excellence in Brass Band performance. Partnering with the very best it strives to open up the opportunity for a new generation of Australian Brass musicians to hear live the finest players from around the world.
The first major initiative was a bold project and involved the ground breaking tour by YBS Band from Yorkshire, at the time ranked no. 1 in the world. Under their dynamic musical director Professor David King this tour in August 2005 will long be remembered by all who were fortunate to hear this great band. It was widely acclaimed as a significant cultural and musical success.
August 2013 will see another major BDU initiative with The Cory Band from Wales (currently ranked No 1 in the World) paying their first visit to Australia.
From Perth in the West to Brisbane in the East this 11 concert tour will give the Australian public a unique opportunity to hear the “Best from Wales” and the “Finest in the World”.
